The app layer adds scheduling and smart home hooks that make it more than a dumb plug in the wall. That said, this requires professional electrician installation and either a 20A or 80A dedicated circuit, so budget for that added cost. Tesla owners will also need a separate adapter, and some app features only work with a live Wi-Fi connection.
